TOK autumn plans: seminar about city spaces, conference on design and discussion on public art

In Summer TOK curators worked hard - though it may seem like we didn't ;)  - to prepare a busy program of events and activities about art, design and urban spaces for the Fall. 

 

On October 4th, we invite you to the  seminar on urban spaces within the project New Urban Topologies organized by by Fargfabriken. Architects,  city activists, curators and social scientists from Sweden, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Russia will discuss how to find balance between preserving historical heritage and forming contemporary urban environment. Our special guest is Niklass Svensson, the Chief Architect of Stockholm. The seminar will be held in the Loft Project ETAGI from 12.00 to 17.00

October 22nd and 23th are the days of socially integrated design practices and our project "Design Platform" aimed at making changes in the the traditional Russian school space.

On October 22nd we will conduct a conference at Loft Project ETAGI, where an international team of architects and designers  will present their ideas for one of the schools in St Petersburg. Russian and Nordic designers will also speak about their projects in the field of socially integrated oriented design for schools, hospitals and other institutions of the social sector. At the conference, we will present our new publication of the new design practices in the school spaces.

 

On October 23d there will be organized a design workshop taught by specialists from Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Finally, on October 26th we will sum up the results of the exhibition "Critical Mass - 2013" and on this occasion will organize a discussion on art in public  spaces at the European University at St Petersburg. We will talk  about social practices in the arts, working with various local communities, the dialogue between the artists and the government, and specific nature of public art projects in St. Petersburg and other cities. The discussion will be joint by the participants of Critical Mass  - 2013 Bik van der Pol and Gareth Kennedy,  Israeli curator Eyal Danon and organizers of the major festivals of contemporary art in St. Petersburg.
