Liesbeth Bik and Jos Van der Pol are artists from Rotterdam, widely known as BIk Van der Pol, have participated in many international exhibitions and public art projects. They also are coordinators of new MA program School of Missing Studies, Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam. Being already known to St Petersburg, they are going to present their work in Critical Mass project.
During almost twenty years Bik Van der Polhave created many projects in Netherlands and abroad. They are making research on the shift of artists separate object production towards shared experience. In their work they use different kinds of practices such as film programs, workshops, picnics, etc, which allow public be a part of art creation process.
Combination and connection of utopia concepts and radical ideas of past in correlation with modern thoughts issues is the sphere of artists' professional interest. For example, they have created the work for Van Abbemuseum, called Plug In # 28, which is the series of installations, oriented for visitors as a person and as a member of society. The museum's room was transferred into the temporary point - Public Domain, which was representing examples of freedom of speech, connected with censorship and everyone's personal restrictions, what made public conduct a research of personal limits.
Soon you will be able to see artists' reconstruction of Radio Orator model of Gustav Klutsis. Inspired by Russian avant-garde, constructivists sculpture, Soviet propaganda and things around Russian modern democracy, they will create the specific platform for reflection and communication for Kupchino citizens and for whole St Petersburg.
